The rumbling of the castle walls keeps you on edge, as you stare towards the metal doors in front of you. You look to your left and right; the other in your assigned squad, Regiment 1-31, that you've gotten only the slightest of chances to know up to now. You can feel the same surge of power propel the castle's foundations, the same you felt at the top of that tower as the brilliant violet light of the castle pushed it past the sea of clouds...
And then, you have to stop yourself from lurching forward. The castle's stopped. The other squads in front of you seem to have practiced this many times now, and they don't give an inch of footing... hopefully you didn't embarrass yourself to the squads standing ready behind you.
You hear a laugh and turn to see Russel walk down towards your row, carrying a gigantic black suitcase. "It's always a bit of a rough ride, isn't it?" he joked, flipping the suitcase to face you. "It's the first fight we're doing as part of our castle-reinforcing campaign, and as a bit of an apology for the others dragging you around for all sorts of bureaucracy and all that, I thought I'd get you a little something from the armory."
He flips the suitcase open, and motions towards one particular object in it. You grab it, tentatively. It's a solid gray, almost independently of the dim lighting of the castle's deployment bay... and yet, it's a weapon that feels like it'll be very useful. Russel seems pleased with the expression on your face, as he motions for the other members of your squad to also take a weapon. Once the suitcase is empty, he shuts the lid and kicks it to the side of the bay.
You hear a voice on the intercom, warning everyone that only ten seconds remain til deployment. You keep your new weapon at your side. "Looks like it's time to deploy," Russel noted. "It's a bit of a high jump, but don't worry, it's always better than it looks. Just try to land on your feet!"
The bay doors peel away, and you feel a rush of air and see the deep green of foilage below - an empty plain of dark green. Seeing the others ahead of you rush forward, you find you have no choice but the sprint, into the unknown, with only your gifts at hand.
This was going to be a long journey.
